Philip Hughes - Extreme Landscapes

Philip Hughes painting of Walk to Studio in Menerbes

Walk to The Studio
The studio in Menerbes was 200 metres from our house, and I made this walk through the narrow roads each day.

Philip Hughes Painting of Monk, Reflections

Monk: Reflections
The Francis Kyle Gallery asked the galley artists to do paintings based on the theme 'Jazz'. This work comes from listening over and over again to the music of Thelonious Monk.

Philip Hughes painting of For Psiche

Ganesha II
The artists book, Elysian Gardens, in which I collaborated with the Mexican writer Carmen Boullosa, was based on the lives of many, many gods including Ganesha.

Sassoon: How To Die
This work was based on one of Sassoon's poems from the 1914-1918 war.
For Psiche
For my wife who loves green.

Menerbes 8 May 2010
This work is derived from the colours and shapes of the fields that I can see from my studio in Menerbes
