Jumping for Joyce: Contemporary painters revel in the world of James Joyce

Francis Kyle Gallery 9 Maddox Street London

3 July - 19 September 2013

In this joint exhibition, Philip has based two etchings on the published book itself. The first, ‘ULYSSES’, is the dust jacket of the 1934 edition by Random House. It was released immediately after the ban on publication was lifted in the USA. The second etching with the initials ‘JJ’ was on the hardcover of the 1946 edition, also by Random House. Both iconic designs were by Ernst Reichl. The works are a homage to the designer. The city of Dublin is reflected in nearly every page of ULYSESS. Philip has done 2 paintings and an etching that mark this importance using old maps of Dublin.
