Alchemy of the planets

ALCHEMY OF THE PLANETS is an artist’s book of poems in Spanish by Mexican poet Carmen Boullosa, translated into English by Psiche Hughes, and inspired by images by artist Philip Hughes with Amy Petra Woodward.

Hughes’s images are printed at The Old School Press on an eight-colour Epson onto 225gsm Somerset Enhanced Velvet which is in turn mounted on a stygian-black Vélin Arches Noir paper echoing the blackness of space. This is then mounted on the inner right-hand side of a fold of 330gsm Somerset Velvet, the inner left-hand side carrying Boullosa’s poetic response to the image in Spanish and English – pies and cantos. The texts are printed in hand-set 18pt Hunt Roman and printed letterpress at The Old School Press.
